For the next few state agency database highlights, we’re going to focus on Campaign Finance in honor of 2008 being an election year.

Today’s State Agency Database Highlight is an effort at government transparency:
Open Book – From the website, “a searchable database of state contracts and campaign contributions. This website combines information from the Comptroller’s accounting system with official semi-annual campaign finance disclosure reports filed by political committees with the Illinois State Board of Elections. The data is presented in a format that allows users to enter the name or partial name of an entity that conducts business with the State of Illinois and compare that entity’s State contracts with political contributions it made.”
Do companies that make large political contributions get the most business? You decide.
The Illinois page of State Agency Databases Across the Fifty States has not yet been adopted by a volunteer. If you would like to maintain this page, please send an e-mail to dnlcornwall AT alaska DOT net with your name and how you come about your knowledge of Illinois government information.

Today’s State Database of the Day comes to us from the District of Columbia:
Campaign Contributions Search – Find campaign contributions by amount, contributor, date, location, or recipient. The Office of Campaign Finance provides easy access to all contributions and expenditures reported from January 1, 1999 through the current reporting period. Because the system is updated on a daily basis, you may be able to retrieve data received by OCF after the latest reporting period. However, this data may not be complete.
