Subject Collections: What Next?

With the posting about our prisoner locater tools, we have concluded our list of subject-focused databases. What should we do next? Here is a cut and paste from our subject collections page:

Future Subject Lists – Below is a listing of topics people have expressed interest in seeing multi-state compilations on. Feel free to start one of these topics or start your own state-database related topic.

  • Campaign Finance / Lobbyist Information
  • Curriculum Guides and materials – Produced by many state education departments.
  • Environmental Databases – Perhaps broken down by type (spills, tanks, habitat, etc)
  • Healthcare practitioners databases – A number of states maintain online directories of doctors and other health care professionals. Some contain disciplinary actions.
  • Road Conditions – Many states have databases that track road conditions and construction activities. Some come with webcams.
  • School Directories – Many states produce extensive information on schools.
  • Tourism databases – Some states have databases of tourist activity, top attractions, economic impact, etc.

Dear Reader, do you have any preferences among the items above? Are there annotated lists of state agency database in these areas that we should link to? Let us know in comments.

Our next post will resume our state by state approach to database highlights.
