FL: Know Before You Go

April 7, 2008

Is your next vacation hotel up to sanitary standards? If your proposed hotel is in Florida, you can check out their inspection record with today’s State Agency Database Highlight:

Food & Lodging Inspection Reports can be searched by name or license number. According to the website:

Deficiencies observed during routine inspections are described in inspection reports, with references to the relevant section of Florida food regulations, and are classified as either critical or non-critical. Inspectors are standardized through extensive training, and are required to document all violations observed. Inspection reports include notice to the operator when violations must be corrected, usually either a date certain or by the next routine inspection. Frequently, violations are corrected at the time of inspection, indicated as corrected on site.

SDOTD 7/20/2007 – FL: Public Sector Phone Directory

July 18, 2007

Today’s State Agency Database of the Day is from Florida:

411 Online Telephone Directory is searchable by agency, city, community college, county, employee, school, subject, university, and phone number.

It offers a twist on the usual state government phone directory in that it has listings for both state and local jurisdictions and you can search by subject keywords. For example, type in “library” and you’ll get 32 hits that include both county and state library agency listings.

An especially nice feature of Florida’s 411 online telephone directory is that it puts numbers in context. Clicking on a description of a phone number takes to that organization in context. Sticking with our previous example, click on Library – Baker County and you’ll get the full contact information, plus a complete Baker County phone directory with the library’s name highlighted. This could be useful for determining the parent agency of a particular office.
