GA: Where’s the Gold?

August 4, 2008

Today’s State Agency Database Highlight tells where Georgia residents put their money:

Deposit Demographics – searchable by city or county. “The FDIC requires each federally insured deposit institution to submit a report detailing the deposit volume at each of its banking offices. These reports are required once a year as of June 30th. The information is usually released near the end of the following October. Therefore, all the deposits shown in the subsequent report are as of June 30th of the indicated years. Also, all deposits are displayed in thousands (000’s omitted).”

MO: Show Me How Charities Handle $

April 25, 2008

If you live in Missouri, you have a tool at your fingertips to help you decide whether to donate to a particular charity. Just use today’s State Agency Database Highlight:

Check a Charity – This database allows users to search for charitable organizations by name to identify its mission, administrative costs, expenses, revenue, and contact information. However, the selected financial information presented in these reports has been taken from information voluntarily filed by the charities. This information has not been independently audited by the Attorney General’s Office, but rather represents self reported figures by the charity.

As it is a self-report, you might want to do some extra checking, but it is a start.
