April 17, 2008

If you’re hungry and in Alabama, check out today’s State Agency Database Highlight before going out:

Food Establishment Scores – enables users to search for restaurants or other food establishments and retrieve their latest inspection score, as well as a map to the establishment. Search by establishment name, type, city, and/or county.

The map comes from Google Maps and can provide driving directions and either satellite or terrain views in addition to the regular road map view. A nice integration of web 2.0 resources into a government produced database.

FL: Know Before You Go

April 7, 2008

Is your next vacation hotel up to sanitary standards? If your proposed hotel is in Florida, you can check out their inspection record with today’s State Agency Database Highlight:

Food & Lodging Inspection Reports can be searched by name or license number. According to the website:

Deficiencies observed during routine inspections are described in inspection reports, with references to the relevant section of Florida food regulations, and are classified as either critical or non-critical. Inspectors are standardized through extensive training, and are required to document all violations observed. Inspection reports include notice to the operator when violations must be corrected, usually either a date certain or by the next routine inspection. Frequently, violations are corrected at the time of inspection, indicated as corrected on site.

SDOTD 7/23/2007 – IL: Farmers’ Market Lookup

July 18, 2007

Today’s State Database of the Day comes to us from Illinois.

AgriHappenings – The Illinois Department of Agriculture along with the Illinois Specialty Growers associations are very pleased with the number of Illinois producers that have signed-up to participate in the ILLINOIS “ WHERE FRESH IS” logo program. This program is made available to producers to use as a tool to help sell Illinois grown produce, fruits and other horticulture commodities.

AgriHappennings is where you want to go if you want to sniff out the freshest produce at farmers’ markets. This database is searchable by county via a drop down box. Records include address of the market, hours, contact info and notes. Notes can include type of produce (veggies, nuts, etc) or type of farming (organic, sustainable). Not all entries have notes.
